Why Did Zionism Begin?

Glad you asked...
Zionism began as a way to safeguard Jewish people and their interests. It was also a way to secure land for expelled and discarded Jews. While some Jews oppose the concept of Zionism, most also feel it is necessary to protect all Jewry from anti-Jewish pogroms and establishments. Zionism is also considered a form of radicalism and racism by many opponents.

Then again, this answer might help you...
The Zionism movement began because the Israelis (also called Jews) were scattered in most parts of the world (especially in Europe and Americas) and they needed a state of their own. This propelled Jewish leaders, one of which was Ahad Ha'am, to gather their fellow Jews and return to their ancestral land - the current Israel.
