Who Were the Populist?

A populist is defined as a supporter of democratic principles and can be many different people in a bunch of different countries. These folks are considered idealists and/or political believers.

The Populist movement was a group of people, mainly farmers that were upset over the rising cost to ship produce and other products via railroad. They also were discouraged on how banks were regulated and wanted more government control over the railroads and banks.
